Swedish Massage

When people hear the word massage they think of the Swedish massage. This technique is the most popular form of massage in the U.S. It Uitlizies oils and long smooth strokes and can be light or deep pressure.

With light pressure this massage will be relaxing for the body & mind. Deeper pressure will give the client an increase in the amount of toxins "milked" out of the muscle and released into the bloodstream. The deep tissue does as it says and gets deeper into the belly of the muscle. Most clients will fall somewhere in-between. Feedback on the amount of pressure throughout the massage is encouraged because muscles have receptors in them. When these receptors sense to much pain they react by contracting the muscle as a protection mechanism. This is why if you step on a tack your leg bends without thinking. If the pressure of a massage is to much the muscle will try to contract and the massage therapist is then working against themselves.

The Swedish massage has many different types of strokes which can be combined with each other and amount of pressure to give various different outcomes. That is why the Swedish massage will also include pre-natal, sports, and addressing medical issues.

The pre-natal massage will use special bolstering to give the mother-to-be extra comfort where it is needed most. During pregnancy the body is compensating for the concentrated extra weight. This will cause soreness in other muscles, especially the low back. Massage is great for relieving these aches and pains as well as the stress that goes along with becoming a parent.

The sports massage will vary on whether the event is coming up or has already ended. Different strokes will be used to either invigorate muscle tissue or relax and flush.

The Swedish massage strokes can also be used to address medical concerns or injuries. Breaking up the scar tissue, bringing blood and nutrients to the site, flushing out debris, stretching, and increasing range of movement are just some of the benefits.
